St. Peter’s Helps Us to Grow in Faith & Love of God
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that parents should begin their children’s education of the faith in their earliest years and the parish is “a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents”. Our religious education program services children from the kindergarten to 8th grade level. Meeting on Saturdays, the children are taught by adult volunteers the beauty of the Catholic faith and prepared for the Sacraments. For further information about our RE program, please contact Angela Scanlon at 630-773-1272 ext. 216.
Last year, Deacon Bob Ziomek and Carol Schubert facilitated a weekly series called In His Image for the adults of the parish. The sessions are held on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM.This series was informative and fun for the parishioners who attended. We are looking forward to a new year of Adult Faith Opportunities. Please click on the News & Events tab to learn more about In His Image or call Schubie for more information at 630-773-1272 ext. 201.
Adult Faith Formation Committee
This is a committee that will gather to review resources, discuss, plan and implement formation opportunities for the parish. St. Anslem said that “theology is faith seeking understanding”. So what are you looking for to help you find a deeper understanding of your faith and the rich traditions of the Catholic faith?
Do you have a suggestion to enhance the faith development of the parishioners of St. Peter’s? Suggestions are always welcome that will bring our parish family in closer relationship with God, Our Father, and his Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Education is more than just intellectual knowledge...
but knowledge of faith and continued formation that increases our full participation in the divine truth. There needs to be a balance in our everyday lives that promotes unity in our body, mind and spirit.
Fundamental tasks of catechesis: helping to know, to celebrate and to contemplate the mystery of Christ.
The fundamental tasks of catechesis are: Promoting knowledge of the faith.
Who has encountered Christ desires to know him as much as possible, as well as to know the plan of the Father which he revealed. Knowledge of the faith (fides quae) is required by adherence to the faith (fides qua). Even in the human order the love which one person ahs for another causes that person to want to know the other all the more. Catechesis, must, therefore, lead to "the gradual grasping of the whole truth about the divine plan," by introducing the disciples of Jesus to a knowledge of Tradition and of Scripture, which is "the sublime science of Christ." By deepening knowledge of the faith, catechesis nourishes not only the life of faith but equips it to explain itself to the world. The meaning of the Creed, which is a compendium of Scripture and of the faith of the Church, is the realization of this task.
